The organisers of the Booker International Prize have announced that a new award will recognise the role of translators in bringing fiction to a wider audience.
The £15,000stg prize will be presented to the author of a work that has been translated into English.
Possible recipients of the inaugural award include Colombian writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Czech writer Milan Kundera.
The shortlist for the first Booker International Prize includes Ian McEwan, Muriel Sparks and Margaret Atwood. The winner will be announced next month, to be followed by the translation award.
