'Star Wars' creator George Lucas will be honoured at the Cannes film festival, where he will receive the prestigious Festival Trophy. The latest 'Star Wars' movie, 'Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith', is set to receive its world premiere at the festival on 15 May.

Lucas, 60, will be presented with the award following a tribute to the filmmaker at a ceremony onboard the luxury cruise liner Queen Mary II during the 11-day festival.

He will become the 10th person to receive the trophy, which was also awarded to actors Sean Penn, Gregory Peck, and actresses Melanie Griffith and Jeanne Moreau, among others.

Last year Lucas was selected by the American Film Institute's (AFI) Board of Trustees to receive the 33rd AFI Life Achievement Award.

Lucas, who directed the original 'Star Wars' film, has also directed the three 'Star Wars' prequels, culminating in 'Revenge of the Sith'. The five previous 'Star Wars' movies generated nearly $3.5bn in global ticket sales.
