The nominees for the 2005 MTV Movie Awards have been announced, with 'Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy' and 'Mean Girls' dominating the shortlists.

Both films have received four nominations, with 'Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy' star Will Ferrell nominated for Best Comedic Performance and 'Mean Girls' star Lindsay Lohan nominated for Best Female Performance.

Joining Lohan on the shortlist are: Rachel McAdams ('The Notebook'), Natalie Portman ('Garden State'), Hilary Swank ('Million Dollar Baby') and Uma Thurman ('Kill Bill Vol 2').

Matt Damon ('The Bourne Supremacy'), Leonardo DiCaprio ('The Aviator'), Jamie Foxx ('Ray'), Brad Pitt ('Troy') and Will Smith ('Hitch') are the nominees for Best Male Performance.

Ferrell is joined on the Best Comedic Performance shortlist by Antonio Banderas ('Shrek 2'), Dustin Hoffman ('Meet the Fockers'), Will Smith ('Hitch') and Ben Stiller ('Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story').

'Kill Bill Vol 2', 'Napoleon Dynamite', 'Spider-Man 2', 'Ray' and 'The Incredibles' are the nominees for Best Movie.

The nominees for Male Breakthrough Performance are: Zach Braff ('Garden State'), Jon Heder ('Napoleon Dynamite'), Freddie Highmore ('Finding Neverland'), Tim McGraw ('Friday Night Lights') and Tyler Perry ('Diary of a Mad Black Woman')

Ashanti ('Coach Carter'), Elisha Cuthbert ('The Girl Next Door'), Bryce Dallas Howard ('The Village'), Rachel McAdams ('Mean Girls') and Emmy Rossum ('The Day After Tomorrow') are the nominees for Female Breakthrough Performance. 

The winners will be announced on 9 June.
