Wrestling legend Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson is to star opposite Seann William Scott and Sarah Michelle Gellar in 'Southland Tales', the new film from 'Donnie Darko' director Richard Kelly.
The Hollywood Reporter says that the film is set in Los Angeles on 4 July 2008, as the city stands on the brink of social, economic and environmental disaster.
The Rock will play an action-movie star with amnesia who crosses paths with an adult film star (Gellar), who is developing a reality TV project, and a police officer (Scott), who holds the key to a vast conspiracy.
Principal photography on the film, which Kelly has described as "a strange hybrid of the sensibilities of Andy Warhol and Philip K Dick", will begin on 1 August.
Moby is composing the music for the film, and Kelly is writing six 100-page graphic novels which will be released over the six months before the film reaches cinemas.
Kelly is also creating an elaborate website for the world his film will depict.
