An anonymous buyer has purchased the rare U2 photographs which were withdrawn from sale at an auction in Dublin on Tuesday night.

A spokesperson for James Adams Salesrooms on St Stephen's Green said that following media coverage, several bidders had contacted the auction house and an offer was accepted by the vendor for the reserve price of €8,000.

The four prints by photographer Anton Corbijn had failed to reach the reserve price on Tuesday.

Peter Rowen, the cover star of U2's 'Boy' and 'War' albums, owned the photos.

The previously unseen black-and-white pictures feature U2 and Rowen.
