Michael Jackson is reported to have spoken by telephone to a group of his fans that gathered at the weekend to support the singer who is currently on trial, charged with child abuse.

According to reports, Jackson spoke, over speakerphone, to several hundred fans that had gathered in Santa Maria.

"I really believe I have the most amazing fans in the whole world," he said. "Thanks for believing in me. God and the truth are on our side."

The trial of Michael Jackson is today due to begin hearing from a series of witnesses testifying in relation to past allegations of inappropriate behaviour made against the singer.

Prosecutors are expected to call on five boys whom they claim were either abused by Mr Jackson or "groomed" for molestation.

'Home Alone' star Macaulay Culkin is expected to be called to give evidence at the trial. The actor has always denied that Mr Jackson ever behaved inappropriately towards him.

Mr Jackson is charged with 10 counts of child molestation, and conspiring to commit child abduction, false imprisonment and extortion. He has pleaded innocent to the charges.
