It has been announced by TV giant NBC that Noah Wyle is to leave 'ER' as a regular cast member at the end of the current series.
The Hollywood Reporter says that Wyle's character, Dr John Carter, will bow out after being reunited with girlfriend Kem (Thandie Newton), whom he met while working in Africa.
Wyle's final episode as an 'ER' regular will be screened in the US on 19 May.
The actor is the only original star who has remained with the medical drama series throughout its 11-year run.
Commenting on Wyle's departure, 'ER' executive producer John Wells said: "It's very sad for me. Noah and I have a lot of history together. He's a wonderful actor and a wonderful man, and it's been great to watch him grow up and get married and have a family."
