Oscar winner Steven Soderbergh is to direct a new romantic thriller called 'The Good German'.
Variety reports that the film is based on the book by Joseph Kanon and tells the story of an American journalist who finds himself drawn into a mystery when he returns to Berlin after World War Two to search for his mistress.
The film will be produced by Section Eight, the company Soderbergh runs in partnership with George Clooney.
At one stage Clooney had been linked to the film, but he is now directing the film 'Goodnight, and Good Luck'.
'The Good German' is set to begin production in September and it is reported that it may be shot in black and white.
