A new version of Mel Gibson's 'The Passion of the Christ' is to open in selected Irish cinemas on Friday 18 March.
'The Passion – Recut' is approximately six minutes shorter than the original and has been given a 15A certificate by the Irish Film Censor's Office.
Producer-director Mel Gibson has re-cut the film, leaving out some of the more violent scenes. "I hope to cater to those people that perhaps might not have seen the original because of its intensity or brutality," he said.
'The Passion of the Christ', originally released in 2004, stars James Caviezel as Jesus of Nazareth and has Latin and Aramaic as its primary languages.
