TV's Ant and Dec, both keen golfers, are set to host a celebrity version of the Ryder Cup.
Robbie Williams and David Beckham have been approached to play for the European team, with Samuel L Jackson and Kevin Costner lined up to represent the US.
The tournament, called The Celebrity Cup, will be broadcast live on ITV and is understood to be planned for the August Bank Holiday.
Each team will consist of 10 showbiz and sporting stars.
Actress Catherine Zeta Jones and husband Michael Douglas have also been asked to take part and would play for opposing teams.
Other celebrities approached to take part are keen golfers Boris Becker, Jodie Kidd and Frankie Dettori.
It is hoped that Colin Montgomerie and his US counterpart Mark O'Meara will agree to be the non-playing team captains.
