The executive producer of 'EastEnders' has quit the show after just four months in charge.
Kathleen Hutchison, former 'Holby City' boss', was brought on board the 'EastEnders' team in an effort to revive the soap after viewership figures declined.
Hutchinson has axed many of the Albert Square characters, including the Ferreira family, since she joined the soap.
She also introduced new characters to liven up storylines, among them Alfie Moon's cousin Jake, played by 'The Office' star Joel Beckett.
Hutchinson said: "I have enjoyed my brief time at EastEnders and wish the show the very best."
A BBC spokesperson has said that Hutchinson's departure was a mutual decision. Series producer Sharon Hughff has also announced that she will be leaving the show.
Former executive producer of the soap, John Yorke, has been announced as temporary executive producer in place of Hutchinson. Yorke has returned to the BBC from Channel 4.
Hutchinson's successor Yorke commented: "Kathleen has done a fantastic job of managing EastEnders during this period of change."
Meanwhile a spokesperson for BBC has denied that 'EastEnders' was in danger of being taken off air due to a shortage of storylines.
