The National Museum of Ireland at Collins Barracks in Dublin was among the winners when the Museum of the Year Awards for 2004 were announced today in Belfast.
They were presented by the North's minister for Culture, Arts and Leisure Angela Smith, at a ceremony at Parliament Buildings in Stormont.
The National Museum of Ireland at Collins Barracks won the category award for best collections care, while Monaghan County Museum received a commendation.
The Natural History Museum in Dublin topped the section for best access and outreach initiative for its education programme with South Tipperary County Museum being commended for the Tom Kiely exhibition.
The "Irish at War" display at the Ulster Museum in Belfast was judged to be the best exhibition.
The Ulster Folk and Transport Museum at Cultra outside Belfast received the overall prize of museum of the year, for which there were 41 entries from both sides of the border.
