Bob Marley remains to be exhumed

The remains of reggae legend Bob Marley are to be exhumed from his resting place in Jamaica and reburied in Ethiopia.

Rita Marley, the wife of the singer, has said that she is making plans to exhume the remains of her husband and take them to his "spiritual home" of Ethiopia in February of this year.

The singer's wife confirmed that Marley's remains would be reburied in Shashemene, about 155 miles south of the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa. "Bob's whole life is about Africa, it is not about Jamaica," Rita Marley said.

The decision to rebury Marley in Ethiopia was taken because it was the birthplace of Haile Selassie, the spiritual leader of the Rastafarian faith, which Marley practised.

The exhumation ceremony will take place in conjunction with month-long celebrations called 'Africa Unite', to mark the 60th anniversary of Marley's birth. The celebrations will also feature a special concert in aid of Ethiopian charities in Addis Ababa on 6 February, where three of Marley's children will perform.
