The nominations for the Screen Actors Guild awards have been announced, with 'Sideways' leading in the film categories.

'Sideways' star Paul Giamatti is nominated for Best Actor, with his co-stars Thomas Haden Church and Virginia Madsen nominated for Best Supporting Actor and Actress.

The film's cast is also nominated in the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture category, along with the stars of 'The Aviator', 'Finding Neverland', 'Million Dollar Baby', 'Ray' and 'Hotel Rwanda', the new film from Belfast-born director Terry George.

Giamatti is joined on the Best Actor shortlist by Don Cheadle ('Hotel Rwanda'), Johnny Depp ('Finding Neverland'), Leonardo DiCaprio ('The Aviator') and Jamie Foxx ('Ray'), who has been nominated in four acting categories across film and TV.

Annette Bening ('Being Julia'), Catalina Sandino Moreno ('Maria Full of Grace'), Imelda Staunton ('Vera Drake'), Hilary Swank ('Million Dollar Baby') and Kate Winslet ('Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind') are the nominees for Best Actress.

The other nominees for Best Supporting Actor are: Jamie Foxx ('Collateral'), Morgan Freeman ('Million Dollar Baby'), James Garner ('The Notebook') and Freddie Highmore ('Finding Neverland').

The other nominees for Best Supporting Actress are: Cate Blanchett ('The Aviator'), Cloris Leachman ('Spanglish'), Laura Linney ('Kinsey') and Sophie Okonedo ('Hotel Rwanda').

The winners will be announced on 5 February at a ceremony in Los Angeles.

'Sideways' opens in Irish cinemas on 28 January, with 'Ray' opening on 21 January and 'Million Dollar Baby' and 'The Aviator' opening on 14 January.
