A letter written by John Lennon to the National Health Service in 1962 is expected to fetch in the region of $25,000 at auction.

In the letter the Beatles star asks the Liverpool NHS office to reinstate his free healthcare, after he has returned to the UK from Germany. The NHS believed that the singer had emigrated at the time.

The letter, dated 22 October 1962, reads: "In point of fact I left the country only for an engagement (as a musician) in Germany but returned to this country about three months later."

The letter, which includes handwritten notes about the inquiry into the matter, is due to be auctioned by New York-based company momentsintime.com.
