The San Diego Film Critics have voted Mike Leigh's Golden Globe-nominated 'Vera Drake' as the Best Film of 2004.

The Hollywood Reporter says that the San Diego critics also named the film's star, Imelda Staunton, as Best Actress, and her co-star, Phil Davis, as Best Supporting Actor, with Leigh also honoured for Best Original Screenplay.

Jim Carrey was named Best Actor for 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' and Natalie Portman was Best Supporting Actress for 'Closer'.

Clint Eastwood was named Best Director for 'Million Dollar Baby'.

'Vera Drake' opens in Irish cinemas on 8 January; 'Million Dollar Baby' opens on 15 January and 'Closer' opens on 21 January.
