Oscar winner Hilary Swank is to star opposite Josh Hartnett and Scarlett Johansson in director Brian De Palma's adaptation of James Ellroy's classic crime novel 'The Black Dahlia'.
The film is based on the murder of an actress in Los Angeles in 1947 and subsequent investigation.
It follows two detectives who are obsessed with tracking down the killer and become trapped in a web of corruption.
Variety reports that Swank will play a femme fatale with an uncanny resemblance to the murder victim.
Shooting on the $30m movie is due to begin on 4 April in Bulgaria.
Swank was yesterday nominated for two Golden Globes for her performances in 'Million Dollar Baby' and 'Iron Angels'.
