X Factor contestant slams Louis Walsh

The 'X Factor' contest turned nasty today as finalist Steve Brookstein launched a bitter attack on judge Louis Walsh.

Brookstein was fuming after Walsh branded him a Fred West lookalike. And in their last meeting before Saturday's grand final, the 35-year-old singer let Walsh know exactly what he thought of him.

"I do not value his opinion as a judge, I do not have any respect or time for him," Brookstein told a press conference as Walsh sat yards away. "When he talks I just get frustrated. He's a very aggravating little man."

Walsh, who is managing rival act G4, tried to apologise for his tasteless Fred West remark. "I thought it was very funny," he said. "It was just a throwaway comment. It's been blown out of proportion. I apologise, I shouldn't have said it."

Both acts will perform live on the ITV1 show this Saturday and the public will vote for their favourite. The winner will get a £1m contract with Simon Cowell's record company.
