Former Pantera guitarist Darrell 'Dimebag Darrell' Abbott was one of four people shot dead in a gun attack during a concert by his new band Damageplan in Ohio on Wednesday night.
Eyewitnesses reported that the band had just begun their set at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio when a man jumped on stage and began shooting, killing four people.
He was then shot dead by a police officer who had been called to the scene.
Two people were injured in the gun attack.
Abbott was one of heavy metal's most celebrated guitarists; his work included Pantera's seminal album 'A Vulgar Display of Power'.
Damageplan released their debut album earlier this year.
