Heavy metal group Motley Crue announced yesterday that they are to reunite for a world tour to begin in February.

The original members of the band last played together six years ago.

Drummer Tommy Lee then quit the group to pursue a short-lived side project.

Vocalist Vince Neil, bassist Nikki Sixx and guitarist Mick Mars continued the rock group with other drummers, but eventually pulled the plug.

The first leg of the tour will begin in North America, with a show in Florida on 17 February.

"We're back in. It's gonna freak you out. Trust me, no one's seen anything like this in years," bassist Nikki Sixx said.

The tour will coincide with the release of a double hits album titled 'Red, White & Crue'.

The CD will include several new songs from the band, including the new single, 'If I Die Tomorrow.'
