Roth - Embarking on a new career

Former frontman of Van Halen, David Lee Roth, is in training to become a paramedic, the New York Post reports.

Roth, 50, has been riding with ambulance crews in the Bronx, Manhattan and Brooklyn for several weeks as part of his training.

Roth was with rock group Van Halen before beginning a solo career. He returned to the band to record two new songs for their 1996 greatest hits compilation but the reunion proved short-lived.

According to reports, Roth takes his work so seriously that he doesn't want any publicity. "I have been on over 200 individual rides now. Not once has anyone recognised me, which is perfect for me," he said.

"You would never know you were dealing with a rock'n'roll guy," said Linda Reissman, Roth's tutor. "His commitment really is touching. He wants to help people."
