Meryl Streep, who had been due to star in the remake of the 1949 Oscar-winning film 'All the King's Men', has left the project.
Variety reports that the film, based on the Robert Penn Warren novel, chronicles the rise and fall of Southern politician Willie Stark (Sean Penn). Jude Law plays Jack Burden, the journalist-narrator of the novel who helps Stark on his way to the top.
Streep was to play Sadie, Stark's aide; another actress will be cast in the role in the near future.
The double Oscar winner will next be seen on Irish cinema screens in Jonathan Demme's remake of 1960s classic 'The Manchurian Candidate'; it opens on Friday 19 November.
