Three Irish writers are on the longlist for the 2005 IMPAC Dublin Literary Award.

The list includes works from 45 nationalities and 29 of the titles are translations.

The Irish writers on the longlist are: Gerard Donovan for 'Schopenhauer's Telescope'; Colum McCann for 'Dancer' and Martin Malone for 'The Broken Cedar'.

Other authors named on the longlist include Man Booker winners DBC Pierre ('Vernon God Little') and Margaret Atwood ('Oryx and Crake'), Whitbread winner Mark Haddon ('The Curious Incident of The Dog in The Night-Time') and Monica Ali ('Brick Lane').

The shortlist will be announced on 8 March 2005, and the winner of the €100,000 award will be named on 15 June next.
