Pierce Brosnan is to star in a sequel to his 1999 heist hit 'The Thomas Crown Affair'.

Variety reports that the sequel is called 'The Topkapi Affair' and will draw on elements of the 1964 film 'Topkapi' and its source novel, Eric Ambler's 'The Light of Day'.

The 1999 version of 'The Thomas Crown Affair' was a remake of the 1968 film of the same name which starred Steve McQueen.

Speaking about the sequel, Brosnan's production partner, Beau St Clair, said that Crown's character would reflect the changes since 11 September.

"We want to take the character further, crack him open, put him in an international backdrop," she said.

Brosnan's new film, the heist caper 'After the Sunset', opens in Irish cinemas on 19 November.
