Bob Geldof has appealed to governments around the world to allow VAT receipts on purchases of the new DVD of the 1985 Live Aid concert to be spent on aid for Africa.
Speaking at the launch of the DVD in London today, Geldof said he wanted to ensure that every penny from the DVD went to support the poorest countries in Africa.
Yesterday the British Chancellor Gordon Brown announced that he would refund to the Band Aid Trust any VAT receipts from the new DVD as well as a CD of a remix of the song 'Do They Know It's Christmas?'
Speaking to journalists, Geldof said: "No government should take money from the mouths of hungry people. That's what they do when they take VAT from these things. You should demand that they return it."
