'25th Hour' star Rosario Dawson is the first actor to sign up for the big screen version of the Tony Award-winning play 'Rent'.
The Hollywood Reporter says that the film will be helmed by 'Harry Potter' director Chris Columbus, with actors Taye Diggs, Jesse L Martin, Adam Pascal, Anthony Rapp and Idina Menzel in talks to reprise their stage roles.
Dawson will play Mimi Marquez, the drug addict stripper suffering from AIDS.
Production on the film is set to begin in the spring.
Dawson will next be seen on Irish cinema screens opposite Colin Farrell in the epic 'Alexander'; it opens in the New Year.
