Glenn Close to join cast of The Shield

Actress Glenn Close is to join the cast of the police drama 'The Shield' for it fourth season, according to reports.

The 'Fatal Attraction' star will play a police captain at the Farmington precinct in all 13 episodes of the series.

Her character will oversee Detective Vic Mackey, played by Emmy winner Michael Chiklis, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Close has received five Oscar nominations and three Tony Awards in her career to date, starring in films which have included 'The Big Chill', 'Dangerous Liaisons' and, more recently, 'The Stepford Wives'.

The new series of 'The Shield' is due to go into production in January 2005.
