US comedian Chris Rock is to host the 77th Annual Academy Awards next year in Hollywood.
The Hollywood Reporter says that while Rock will be making his debut as Oscars host, he has previously hosted the MTV Video Music Awards in 1999 and 2003.
"When you consider the requirements of hosting the Oscar show, you want a) a movie star, b) someone who's funny and c) has stand-up experience," said Oscars producer Gil Cates.
"When you think of a funny movie-star/stand-up comedian, there's not a lot of people on the list. It's inevitable that Chris would be asked."
Rock is currently shooting a remake of the prison sport movie 'The Longest Yard' with Adam Sandler; the film is due out next year.
