Universal Pictures have decided to not go ahead with 'American Gangster' after director Antoine Fuqua left the project citing "creative differences", according to Variety.
The film was to star Denzel Washington and Benicio Del Toro. Both actors had pay-or-play deals.
The script for 'American Gangster', by Steve Zaillian, was been based on an article about Harlem drug lord Frank Lucas, who smuggled heroin in the coffins of soldiers killed in Vietnam.
Variety reports that the studio tried to find a replacement for Fuqua, but eventually decided to abandon the film.
