American actress Janet Leigh, who was best known for her role in Alfred Hitchcock's 'Psycho', died yesterday at her home in Beverly Hills. She was 77.
The actress' daughters, Kelly Curtis and actress Jamie Lee Curtis were with their mother when she died, according to Jamie Lee Curtis' spokeswoman.
Leigh had been suffering from vasculitis, an inflammation of the blood vessels, for the last year.
Although Leigh worked on every kind of film during a career which spanned more than 50 years, she will always be remembered for the role of Marion Crane, Psycho's doomed embezzler.
While she earned just $25,000 for her 45 minutes onscreen in the Hitchcock thriller, her performance earned her a Golden Globe and an Academy Award nomination.
Leigh worked with leading stars such as Errol Flynn, Gary Cooper, James Stewart, Orson Welles and Judy Garland, appearing in many successful films including 'Little Women', 'Angels in the Outfield', 'Scaramouche', 'Houdini' and 'The Manchurian Candidate'.
She co-starred with daughter Jamie Lee Curtis in 1980 horror flick 'The Fog' and her last film was 2000's 'A Fate Totally Worse Than Death'.
