Oscar-winning actor Russell Crowe may make his directorial debut next year in a film based on a novel by John Hepworth.
Set during World War II, 'The Long Green Shore' is about an Australian battalion's mission in Papua New Guinea.
According to the AAP, Crowe may also star in the film, playing the commander or the character who narrates the story.
American producer Mark Johnson, who won the Best Picture Academy Award for 1988's 'Rain Man' is on board to develop the film.
Crowe has just finished work alongside Renee Zellweger on Ron Howard's boxing film 'The Cinderella Man'.
