The miniseries 'Angels in America' and 'The Sopranos' were the big winners at the 56th annual Emmy Awards in Los Angeles last night.
'Angels in America' won 11 Emmys; it was named Best Miniseries and made a clean sweep of the miniseries acting categories with awards for stars Al Pacino, Meryl Streep, Jeffrey Wright and Mary-Louise Parker.
The adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play also took the awards for directing and writing.
It now holds the record for wins by a miniseries, beating the nine won by 'Roots' in the 1970s.
'The Sopranos' was named Best Drama Series and also won in the Writing for a Drama Series category.
There were also Best Supporting Actor and Actress awards for stars Michael Imperioli and Drea de Matteo.
James Spader was named Best Actor in a Drama Series for 'The Practice' with Allison Janney Best Actress for 'The West Wing'.
Kelsey Grammer won Best Actor in a Comedy Series for 'Frasier' and after five previous nominations, Sarah Jessica Parker was named Best Actress in a Comedy Series for 'Sex and the City'.
Grammer and Parker's co-stars, David Hyde Pierce and Cynthia Nixon, won the supporting comedy actor and actress awards.
