Irish costume designer wins Emmy Award

Irish costume designer Consolata Boyle has won an Emmy Award for her work on the television remake of 'The Lion in Winter'.

Boyle was announced as the winner of the Award for Outstanding Costumes for a Miniseries, Movie or a Special at the Creative Arts Primetime Emmys on Sunday 12 September.

'The Lion in Winter', which stars Glen Close and Patrick Stewart, is a reworking of the classic 1968 film about King Henry II and his imprisoned wife, Eleanor of Acquitaine.

It has been nominated for a further five more Emmys, the winners of which will be announce at the 56th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles this Sunday, 19 September.

Dublin-born Boyle, who now lives in Wicklow, trained as a designer at the Abbey Theatre and her film work includes 'Nora', 'Into the West', 'When Brendan Met Trudy' and 'The Actors'.
