Michael Moore is not submitting his film 'Fahrenheit 9/11' for consideration in the best documentary category at next year's Oscars.
The Hollywood Reporter says that in a statement, the Oscar-winning director of 'Bowling for Columbine' explained: "I made the decision not to submit my film for best documentary because, as I told my film crew, let's let someone else have that Oscar. We already have a Best Documentary Oscar."
It is reported that Moore wants 'Fahrenheit 9/11' to compete for the Best Picture Award; if nominated, it would be the first time a non-fiction film had made the shortlist.
Moore hopes to air 'Fahrenheit 9/11' on US television before the presidential election, with pay-per-view one of the options that is
being explored.
Under Oscar rules, if a documentary airs on television or the Internet within nine months of being released in the cinema it is not eligible for consideration for the documentary academy award.
