IFTA announce people's choice awards

The Irish Film and Television Awards 2004 yesterday announced the nominees for two People's Choice categories - the Best Irish Film and International Film Awards.

The Best Irish Film Award will see the public voting for their favourite film from a shortlist which includes 'Blind Flight', 'Bloom', 'Cowboys and Angels', 'Omagh', and 'Song for a Raggy Boy'. Last year's winner was 'Veronica Guerin'.

The inaugural International Film Award allows the public to celebrate the best in international cinema in the last year.

The nominees are 'Fahrenheit 9/11', 'The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King', 'Lost in Translation', 'Mystic River' and 'The Passion of the Christ'.

The winners of the Awards will be announced at the Irish Film and Television Award ceremony, which takes place on 30 October.
