Young actress Dakota Fanning is to star opposite Tom Cruise in Steven Spielberg's version of 'The War of the Worlds'.
Variety reports that Fanning will play the daughter of Cruise's character.
The film is set to begin shooting in November, with a summer 2005 release eyed.
Fanning's previous credits include 'Uptown Girls', 'I Am Sam' and 'Man on Fire', which opens in Irish cinemas on 8 October.
Cruise's new film, 'Collateral', opens in Irish cinemas on 17 September.
