Irish director Damien O'Donnell has won the prestigious Standard Life Audience Award at the 58th Edinburgh International Film Festival.
His film, 'Inside I'm Dancing', took the prize over 18 other films, which included Jim Jarmusch's 'Coffee & Cigarettes', 'The Motorcycle Diaries', directed by Walter Salles, and Ken Loach's Glasgow-set romance 'Ae Fond Kiss'.
Fellow Irish film, 'Mickybo & Me', directed by Terry Loane, scooped third place.
'Inside I'm Dancing', starring Steven Robertson and James McAvoy, tells the story of a young man with cerebral palsy whose life is transformed by an unlikely friendship. It is due for release in Ireland this October.
This is O'Donnell's third feature film; he also directed the BAFTA Award-winning 'East Is East' and 'Heartlands'.
Previous winners of the Standard Life Audience Award, which is chosen by audience votes and celebrates mainstream cinema, include box office hits 'The Full Monty', 'Billy Elliot', 'Rabbit Proof Fence' and 'Amélie'.
