Former Libertines frontman Pete Doherty has been warned that he could face jail after pleading guilty to possession of a flick knife.
The 25-year-old was found with the weapon when he was pulled over by police in June.
Doherty's defence Frank Brazell told the court that the singer had returned from holidays 12 hours previously and the knife had been bought legally as a present for a friend.
He said there was no suggestion that the knife would be used as a weapon and that Doherty had broken off the tip so it would not be as sharp.
The Magistrate ordered a pre-sentence report and Doherty must appear in court again for sentencing on 1 September.
