Last night the 2004 Dun Laoghaire Festival of World Cultures was launched in Dublin.

Ireland's leading intercultural festival will take place from Friday 27 until Sunday 29 August, with over 90 events in 35 venues throughout Dun Laoghaire.

The weekend will combine internationally renowned acts and local talent in areas including music, film, circus, theatre, dance performances, exhibitions, workshops and children's activities.

2004's Festival programme includes Caribbean jazz, African rap, Siberian throat singing, Indian folk dance and international cabaret, alongside Ireland's own traditional and contemporary sounds.

Among the performers are Spanish outfit Amparanoia, Palestinian Amal Murkus, British Asian Nitin Sawhney, British Caribbean Jazz group Jamaica All Stars, West African Toumani Diabate and Mexican duo Rodrigo y Gabriela.

This year's Festival also includes an International food market, a dedicated open-air dance platform and a programme of world film in the Festival's own mobile cinema.
