U2 frontman Bono is to be awarded a US National Civil Rights Museum Freedom Award, for his work in campaigning for social justice.
The museum, located on the site where Martin Luther King was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee, presents two Freedom Awards every year in recognition of efforts to advance civil rights.
Bono is to receive this year's International Award for championing the cause of social justice through his music and activism.
The other recipient is US House of Representatives politician John Lewis, who is being rewarded for his commitment to the ideals of equality and justice.
The awards will be presented on 18 October.
Previous recipients of the museum's awards are former South African president Nelson Mandela, former US president Jimmy Carter and civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks.
