'Fahrenheit 9/11', the controversial film by director Michael Moore, has become the first documentary to make it to number one in the US box office chart in its opening weekend.
'Fahrenheit 9/11' attacks the Bush administration's actions in the wake of the terrorist attack on 11 September 2001.
According to BBC Online, the film took $21.8m in its first three days of release.
It has already beaten the box office record for a documentary, which was held by Moore's Academy Award-winning 'Bowling for Columbine' and also won the Palme d'Or award at this year's Cannes Film Festival.
'Fahrenheit 9/11' will be released in Ireland on 9 July by Abbey Films.
