Country singer Glen Campbell has been sentenced to 10 nights in jail by a US court for a drunken hit-and-run accident last November.

Campbell pleaded guilty in May to leaving the scene of an accident and extreme driving under the influence.

The judge also sentenced Campbell to two years' probation and 75 hours of community service.

The 68-year-old is also barred from drinking alcohol during his probation term.

The Grammy Award-winner will begin his sentence on 01 July but will be allowed to work during the day.

Speaking to the judge, the singer, whose hits include 'Rhinestone Cowboy' and 'By the Time I Get to Phoenix', said "believe you me, I think that's the last you've seen of Glen Campbell putting alcohol in his veins".
