Kingston's rounds on ER have ended

'ER' star Alex Kingston has said that she is being axed from the hit medical drama because she is too old.

In an interview with the Radio Times Kingston, who plays Dr Elizabeth Corday on the show, said she was recently told that her contract would not be renewed and that the programme makers wanted to concentrate on younger characters.

Speaking about 'ER', Kingston said: "I understand it needs to keep reinventing itself in order to keep going and apparently I, according to the producers and the writers, am part of the old fogeys who are no longer interesting."

The 41-year-old, who earned £2.3m last year, added: "It's fine to have young med students, but you need to have figures of authority, people of different ages, races, shapes and sizes."
