'Omagh', the film dramatisation of the events and aftermath of the 1998 Omagh bombing, is to get a cinema release.

The film was recently broadcast on RTÉ and Channel 4 TV and will also be shown in Dublin's Screen Cinema from next Friday, 11 June.

On 15 August 1998 a Real IRA bomb killed thirty-one people. 'Omagh' tells the story of the Omagh Support and Self Help Group as they searched for the truth of what happened that day.

The focus of the film is on the story of Michael Gallagher, who lost his 21-year-old son Aiden in the explosion, and who has become a key spokesman and lobbyist for the Support Group.

Directed by Pete Travis ('Henry VIII'), 'Omagh' was made with the full co-operation of the Support Group and of the Gallagher family, who were carefully consulted throughout the process.

The cast includes Academy Award winner Brenda Fricker and Omagh native Gerard McSorley, last seen on screen in Joel Schumacher's film 'Veronica Guerin'.

'Omagh' was written by Guy Hibbert and producer Paul Greengrass ('Bloody Sunday').
