Celebrated British playwright, screenwriter, director, essayist, poet and novelist Harold Pinter is one of the international authors that will attend this year's Dublin Writers Festival.

The Dublin Writers Festival 2004, featuring over 60 writers, will take place in venues throughout the city from Thursday 17 to Sunday 20 June.

The events that will take place over the four-day Festival include readings, discussions, lectures, film, music, events for children and the Dublin Writers Festival/Rattlebag Poetry Slam.

Pinter, who lists 'The Birthday Party', 'The Caretaker' and 'Press Conference' among his numerous celebrated plays, will read from and discuss his work with Fintan O'Toole.

Other authors involved in the Festival include Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Tracy Chevalier, Stephen Dobyns, and Booker nominees Anita Desai and Michèle Roberts.

Irish authors Michael Collins (Booker-nominated for 'The Keepers of the Truth'), Sean O'Reilly, Paul Murray and Aidan Mathews will also be reading from their works.

With ten accession countries just having joined the EU, the Festival has invited four of Eastern Europe's younger poets, Petr Borkovec (Czech Republic), Kristiina Ehin (Estonia), Agnieszka Kuciak (Poland) and Karlis Verdins (Latvia) to read from their works.

This year's children's event features Irish writers Herbie Brennan, the internationally acclaimed creator of 'Faerie Wars', and Aubrey Flegg, who has just won the Bisto Children's Book Award for 'Wings Over Delft'.
