It is reported that US cable channel HBO has decided to abandon plans to bring hit series 'Sex and the City' to the big screen.

Variety says that star Kim Cattrall could no longer commit to the project, and that HBO was not going to develop a script without her involvement.

Cattrall's spokesperson, Marvet Britto, said: "She would have loved to have done the movie and made a deal to do the movie, but waited as long as possible with no script or start date and felt she had to take other offers that were presented to her after the hold period had passed."

Britto added that Cattrall would be happy to revisit the project in the future.
