Beck and Eels are among the artists contributing to a Daniel Johnston tribute album which is being produced by Sparklehorse's Mark Linkous.
Sometimes classified as an outsider musician, Johnson, despite battling chronic mental illness, has had an influential career as a singer-songwriter.
A legend on the Austin, Texas music scene, he has been championed by members of Sonic Youth, Yo La Tengo, Butthole Surfers and Nirvana.
According to Gammon Records, the record, which features artists covering Johnston's songs, is entitled 'Discovered Covered - The Late Great Daniel Johnston' and is due for release in the US on 22 August.
Mercury Rev, Teenage Fanclub and M Ward all appear on the album which also includes a collaboration between Sparklehorse and The Flaming Lips and an unreleased track from Johnston.
