'Shrek 2', the computer generated animated film starring Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz and Eddie Murphy, will be in competition at the Cannes Film Festival in May.

It will be up against the Coen brothers remake of 'The Ladykillers', Stephen Hopkins' 'The Life and Death of Peter Sellers', Michael Moore's latest documentary, 'Fahrenheit 9/11' and 14 other films from around the world for the top honour, the Palme d'Or

In 2001 'Shrek' became the first animated film to compete at Cannes for almost fifty years.

Films not in competition that will screen at Cannes includes the Roman epic 'Troy', which stars Brad Pitt, Quentin Tarantino's 'Kill Bill: Vol 2' and the zombie remake 'Dawn of the Dead'.

The festival opens with Pedro Almodovar's 'Bad Education' on 12 May and ends on 23 May with 'De Lovely', a Cole Porter biopic that stars Kevin Kline and Ashley Judd.

Previous Cannes award-winner Tarantino chairs year's film jury and other judges are Emmanuelle Beart, Benoit Poelvoorde, Jerry Schatzberg, Kathleen Turner and Tilda Swinton.
