Schools Video Competition winners announced

The winners of the Irish Schools Video Competition 2004 were announced on Friday night at the Fresh Film Festival in Limerick.

Over 40 films written, directed and produced by young Irish people were screened throughout the day.

Irish filmmaker Karl Golden, whose debut feature film 'The Honeymooners' opened on the same day, presented the prizes.

Jonathan Lambert of Dublin Made Films took first prize for 'The Boy's Revenge'; 'Just A Walk In The Park', by Eoghan Quinn for EEGS Productions, Dublin won second place and the students of James Street CBS in Dublin took third prize for the realistic portrayal of their local story in 'The Penny Drops'.

Highly commended awards were presented to Coolaclare Children's Film Project, County Clare for 'The Summer Of 1920', Bryan Harley of Dundalk Grammar School for 'Spaceboy', St Killian's Vocational School, Galway for 'Alive Alive O' and to Banbha McCann from Inanimate Productions, Dublin for 'Crossing The Water'.

The 2004 Audience Award went to 'The Treatment' which was made by the participants in Market's Area Youth Service in Dublin. The 2004 Innovation Award went to Luke Leslie from Bucked Cranium Productions, Dublin.

Jayne Foley, festival director, described the three-day event as an exciting and inspiring showcase of the quality and creativity of young Irish filmmakers.
