Newcastle stadium for soccer movie

Newcastle United's St James' Park ground will have a starring role in the new soccer movie 'GOAL!'.

Directed by Michael Winterbottom ('24-Hour Party People'), 'GOAL!' is the first in a trilogy of movies that follows the career of a South American soccer ace, played by 'Y Tu Mamá También' star Diego Luna.

'GOAL!' will use St James' Park as the home of the film's fictional team with 'Good Will Hunting' star Stellan Skarsgard playing the manager.

The second film in the trilogy will see the hero transferring to Real Madrid and the third will have him playing in the 2006 World Cup.

'GOAL!' has already begun shooting and is due in cinemas next February.
